American
Express offers philanthropic support in three areas: Community Service, Cultural
Heritage, and Economic Independence.
The AT&T Foundation invests in projects
that are at the intersection of community needs and AT&T's business interests. Emphasis is placed on
programs that serve the needs of people in communities where AT&T has a significant business presence,
initiatives that use technology in innovative ways, and programs in which AT&T employees are actively
involved as contributors or volunteers.
Private Foundations
The Conservation Fund site
includes information about four awards, including the Eastman Kodak American Greenways Awards,
(a partnership project of Kodak, The Conservation Fund, and the National Geographic Society),
which provides small grants to stimulate the planning and design of greenways in communities
throughout America.
The Ford Foundation's goals are to
strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation, and
advance human achievement. The Foundation makes grants or loans that build knowledge and strengthen
organizations and networks.
Grants are available from the National
Fish and Wildlife Foundation, which conserves healthy populations of fish, wildlife
and plants, on land and in the sea, through creative and respectful partnerships, sustainable
solutions, and better education.
The National Forest Foundation's Grant
Programs promotes the creation of locally-based forest partnerships.
Grants may be used for a wide range of needs including: basic start-up and operating costs, materials
and equipment, technical assistance, training, consultants, community outreach, obtaining 501(c)(3)
status, program development, group facilitation, nonprofit management skill-building, and communications.
The National
Parks Foundation grants over $15 million annually in cash, services or in-kind donations
to the National Park Service and its partners. Grants are awarded in the areas of volunteerism, visitor
experience, education, outreach and priority programs.
The Smith Richardson Foundation contributes to
important public debates and helps address serious public policy challenges facing the United States.
The Foundation awards grants to help ensure the vitality of our social, economic, and governmental
institutions; it also assists with the development of effective policies to compete internationally
and to advance U.S. interests and values abroad.
The mission of the Mule Deer Foundation is
to ensure the conservation of mule and blacktail deer and their habitats. The Mule Deer Foundation
funds a variety of conservation projects and programs including habitat enhancement, management,
conservation education, and hunting heritage.
The David and Lucile Packard Foundation
provides grants to nonprofit organizations in the following program areas: conservation; population;
science; children, families, and communities; arts; and organizational effectiveness and philanthropy.
The Foundation provides national and international grants, and also has a special focus on the Northern
California counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey.
The Tides Foundation awards
grants to nonprofits working for social change in the United States and abroad. The grants
(most of which are recommended by the Foundation's individual, family or institutional donors) are
awarded to projects that promote human rights, justice, and a healthy, sustainable environment.
The Captain Planet Foundation funds
and supports hands-on environmental projects for children and youths. The Foundation encourages
innovative programs that empower children and youth around the world to work individually and
collectively to solve environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities.
Wildlife Forever conserves
America's wildlife heritage through preservation of habitat, conservation education, and management of
fish and wildlife. Grants from Wildlife Forever are targeted for research management, acquisition,
and educational purposes; special emphasis is placed on grassroots programs.
The Kenney Foundation helps
develop and support campaigns to protect and restore critical wild rivers in the Western United States
and British Columbia, focusing primarily on the upper, wild stretches of the watershed.
Wilburforce Foundation is a private,
philanthropic foundation that funds environmental issues in the Western U.S. and Western Canada. Begun in
1991, the Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations that have programs operating in Alaska, the
Yellowstone to Yukon region, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona or New Mexico.
Land Conservation is central to TPL's mission. Founded in 1972,
the
The Trust for Public Land is the only national
nonprofit working exclusively to protect land for human enjoyment
and well-being. TPL helps conserve land for recreation and spiritual
nourishment and to improve the health and quality of life of American
communities.
