The Collaboration Support Program: The National Forest Foundation's Collaboration Support Program (CSP) is currently requesting proposals to sustain existing place-based collaborative efforts as well as incentive to take the risks necessary to innovate and move the field of collaboration forward. Guide to Funding Resources: The National Agricultural Library's Rural Information Center has developed a valuable online funding guide. It includes links to searchable databases offering funding opportunities from government and/or private sources that are available to local governments, community organizations, and individuals. It also provides Web links to more than sixty full-text online guides, manuals, and tips to assist grant writers prepare successful proposals. Find out more »

Building Trust with a Walk in the Woods:
In November 2007, a diverse group of interests (including the Forest Service, timber industry, conservation groups and local community members) gathered in the Deschutes National Forest to learn more about the Glaze Forest Restoration Project, which proposes to restore old-growth and second growth forests and Riparian Habitat Conservation Areas with ecologically driven tree thinning, shrub mowing and prescribed fire on approximately 1,200 acres. More importantly, the project utilized unique collaboration tactics to discuss and identify potential management treatments with the help of historically unlikely partners. Read more at »
Creating Zones of Agreement in Montana: In September 2007, conservationists, motorized users, outfitters, loggers, mill operators, state government and the Forest Service collaboratively established a set of restoration principles to help guide efforts in the state of Montana. Overcoming decades of disparity and indifference, the group developed 13 principles to help steer and evaluate restoration projects, programs and policies. Allies in the Woods: The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) has released a report, “Factors that Influence Successful Collaborations between the Forest Products Industry and Environmental Organizations.” The report highlights 12 collaborative projects that balance industry interests with conservation priorities. The report also identifies factors that have led to successful collaborations and presents recommendations for future collaborative efforts. CBF Report: In 2000, the Ford Foundation established a 5-year Community Based Forestry (CBF) Demonstration Program designed to increase the ability of CBF groups to effect positive social, economic, and ecological change through forest stewardship. Project researchers recently released the results of their study of the Demonstration Program. Read more »
Collaboration in Stewardship Contracting: Sustainable Northwest recently developed an informational guide for the Forest Service and its partners involved in stewardship contracting. It describes opportunities for collaboration throughout the contracting process, offers suggestions of best practices, and includes links to a wealth of additional resources.
