Partnerships Help National Forests Maintain Roads
Through innovative, nontraditional partnerships with public agencies, watershed groups, and volunteer organizations, National Forests are finding new ways to tackle a backlog of road maintenance projects. Organizations such as the Department of Defense, private pavement companies, correctional camps and more are assisting the Forest Service in decommissioning roads, brushing and clearing, applying magnesium chloride, and providing material donations for roads maintenance.
The Olympic National Forest works in partnership with the Skokomish Watershed Action Team to fund and implement road treatments that improve water quality in the Upper South Fork Skokomish watershed.
Two hundred miles of 4-wheel drive roads and OHV trails in the San Bernardino National Forest receive regular maintenance through a partnership with OHV Clubs and the San Bernardino National Forest Association.

It includes links to searchable databases offering funding opportunities from government and/or private sources that are available to local governments, community organizations, and individuals.
